The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a well-known novel that takes place in a dystopian world. When North America is destroyed by a natural disaster, Panem is created. Panem consists of a Capital surrounded by 13 districts. The districts rebelled against the Capital in a big war that ended in the Capital’s victory and the 13th district being destroyed. As punishment, the Capitol created an annual Hunger Games where each of the 12 districts sends one boy and one girl to fight to the death while all of Panem watches.
The book takes place when Katniss Everdeen from District 12 takes her sisters place after she gets chosen to be a tribute for the district. She must use all she knows about survival and must make tough decisions in order to win the Games and come back home to her family.
The book explores themes of love vs. survival and humanity as you follow Katniss’ journey throughout the Hunger Games.
