Betrayal is essentially just a feeling that people feel when they are abandoned and their trust broken. Betrayal can be heartbreaking, but people can change their reaction to the betrayal and how they take the hit. Often losing the trust of a very close one is one of the hardest things to deal with in life. Middle school is also a time in the lives of humans when one has many friend circles and trusts lots of people that don’t deserve that trust. This is very common and can be heartbreaking depending on how close you are with the person you have shared your secret with.
Here are steps to help you cope with betrayal:
Step 1: Feel it. Try to understand your emotions, try to connect with them. For some, it helps to write them down. Really take time to sit down and think about what you have gone through. Talk to friends who will listen and accept what you are going through..
Step 2: Give yourself some space. Try to see their point of view and understand why they did what they did. Make sure to take care of yourself. Take care of your basic needs.
Step 3: Forgive yourself before you forgive the other person. People often feel stupid to have trusted the other with something sensitive. We feel like a fool and often duped. Which is why you should forgive yourself before you forgive the other if that is what you have in mind.
Step 4: Lift your own spirits. Make sure to not complain about the scenario to others or to think about the situation way too much. You need to move on for the moment and forget what happened between you and the other.
Step 5: Forgive and forget. You can forgive the person no matter how long it may take, you should at one point forgive the person. Seriously.
