Hey there! This is the new section to the BPC Post: The technology corner. I will mostly be writing this section, because I am the tech nerd and Chief Tech Advisor here at the Post. I manage the website as well if you guys didn't know. Let's talk about the first edition in this section. iOS 12 is the most innovative software out there (debatably). It enhances your iPhone more than you think. So without further ado, here are the top tips and tricks to enhance your day to day iPhone experience.
Before you do anything: Update your iPhone to iOS 12 if you haven’t already because the advantages are much greater than the disadvantage. As a matter of fact the average consumer doesn’t update their iPhone because they think it will slow their phone. This was true for previous iOS updates. This one on the other hand boosts the performance of your phone. Without further ado, let’s get to the tips and tricks!
iOS 12 Tips and Tricks
Looking through your text. Hold down the spacebar and move across the keyboard. This is another way to sift through specific words or letters on your document or text. It’s like the magnifying glass that allows your to look through the words and letters. The reason this is such a big deal is because it was only available on the iPhone 10 before. I personally use this feature on a day to day basis and find it extremely useful.
Screen time. Screen time is a feature that Apple has added for iOS 12 that allows you monitor how much time you spend on your screen. I find this extremely useful for my day to day use. It even provides a screen time report at the end of the week. It truly helps me realize how much time I have spent on my screen and how much I need to improve on that time. I advise you to keep a goal in mind, whether it be how many hours you want to cut down to in a day or a week. It will really make you more self conscious of how much time you spend on your phone. An additional feature is parental control. Parents can now set up down times on their children which means that their kids cannot use their phones after your set up time without their parents’ permission with the parental password. This is a great system and works very well on all iOS devices. If you have an icloud family set up than you can even monitor your children’s activity from your own device. All this can be toggled in the screen time section of your iOS device.
Battery Performance. Another feature of iOS 12 allows for access to battery performance. This is extremely handy if you want to check out how much power your battery is taking up or if it is degrading really fast. If you are worried about you battery or if your phone is getting too hot you can check out the diagnostics in the battery section of the settings app. If the problem persists, then you should get your device checked out at the Apple Store.
Face ID. If you have an iPhone X, XS, XS Max, or XR than you are now able to put another Face ID account for your significant other or whomever it may be. This is helpful for my family especially because my dad’s password is really long and whenever my mom needs to use my dad’s phone she can now use her face. It really adds a convenience factor to the newer iPhones.
Password fill. Password file is another great feature that some people might be into using. It really is a great feature that allows you to store your passwords on icloud. You could only do this before on Mac OS, and for some users it is a much wanted feature. I think that it's great for people that really don't want to remember their passwords for each and every account that they own. This works with some websites and will prompt you to remember the password to that website. It uses your Touch ID or Face ID whenever it asks you to autofill your password.
That's it for Technology corner. Hope you enjoyed!
